We are searching for an experienced Director Development

Job Purpose:
Serve as an advancement leader, major gifts officer, and integral team member in the College’s advancement team. Develop strong relationships with individual donors, alumni, foundations, corporations and friends of the college for the purpose of securing major and annual gifts. Work directly with the Vice President of Advancement in developing strategies and implementing tactics that will successfully increase philanthropic support from key constituencies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Secure major gifts by developing funding proposals and conducting direct solicitation with individuals, foundations, corporations and others in the private sector. Conduct prospect and donor research in coordination with the Vice President of Advancement.
  • Develop endowment agreements according to donor intent and process funds according to executed agreements.
  • Secure mid-range and lower-range gifts for annual fund, events and employee giving campaign. Serve in leadership role for employee giving campaign.
  • Manage the reporting and accounting documents related to Excellence Fund revenue and disbursement.
  • Direct revenue coding and gift processing in Raiser’s Edge to Financial Edge so gift accounting is recorded for intended use.
  • Serve as a college representative as needed on event committees that create funding for the college and/or the foundation
  • Employ various methods to secure donations, including direct mail, online giving and personal solicitations. Provide stewardship and foster relationships among various constituencies to increase both alumni participation and financial support.
  • Increase overall participation rate of alumni in the annual fund.
  • Manage a portfolio of prospective and current donors resulting in a significant increase in gifts. Renew and upgrade current donors. Complete a minimum number of contacts per week. Record actions, notes and pertinent information in donor database.
  • Support the foundation office with all other duties as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Perform all duties and maintains all standards in accordance with college policies, procedures and Core Values.

 

Required Qualifications:


Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education required and four (4) years of experience with demonstrated skill in non-profits and/or gift solicitation.

Experience with The Raiser’s Edge, alumni relations and annual fund, preferably in higher education, preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of basic fundraising best practices on the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of private gifts
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with donor management database systems
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a clear, concise and persuasive manner
  • Ability to manager multiple projects
  • Ability to work independently and lead a team to achieve goals
  • Ability to solicit gifts from individual, corporate and foundation sources
  • Ability to motivate and persuade others

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met. Positions in this class typically include talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking and repetitive motions, plus stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.
